E Metal Reviews 2
Kettle Cadaver - Among The Damned
Horror Rock Records - 2007
What do you think would happen if you took the best parts of Ministry, Samhain and snippets of Mayhem, attach them to each other in a style befitting Frankenstein’s monster and videotaped the vile, bloody carnage then put it on a DVD? Simple, you’d get Kettle Cadaver’s “Among The Damned”. Within this unholy DVD lurk twelve of the most terrifying, heart stoppingest, vomit inducingest, disembowelingest industrial/doom/ambient metal videos ever recorded! There are so many forms of fucked up hedonism in here, that a mere glance at the screen will damn your soul to the fiery depths of Hell! Seriously, what’s your pleasure? Sadomasochism? It‘s in “Among The Damned“! Pseudo-BDSM? It‘s in “Among The Damned“! Road Warrior worship? It‘s in “Among The Damned“! This is definitely one of the best metal DVDs I've ever had the pleasure of watching, if not the weirdest. I was a little weary when I saw the vocalist nail his scrotum to a cedar plank, but honestly, who here hasn't thought of doing the same thing? This guy just had the drive (or lack of commonsense) to do it. I guess that means that we're just jealous... Sure there are a few nay-sayers out there (Christians, pussies, Kevin Stewart-Panko, etc...) but if you have a penchant for the “ick, eww and blarg!”, check out “Among The Damned”! If not for the brutal music videos, then at least for the barbaric "German Death Camp Match” extra. Fans of old school ECW or extreme Japanese wrestling will be cuming blood for weeks! Remember: “Among The Damned”, well worth the eternal damnation!

My, that this is porrada. I honestly did not know that banda. While listening (although a DVD, I turn first to pay attention in music) they play all existing and possible trends in their music, and naturally. Many bands make it to be mechanically (as I said in last album of Children Of Bodom, for example) and so forced, as if it were doing math or making a recipe for cake. But not here, the Kettle Cadaver has no such, they simply made the music that way. The guys are bombados love and terror in all its forms. Impossible not hear (or see) and not understand influences of Misfits, Danzig, so many things, and Hardcore Punk, and Metal, is mainly Heavy or Death, Thrash and even Black and lost something of Goth and Dark. Yes, fans of all these styles are welcome, and of Terror and Horror in general. I honestly did not know the banda and I surpreendi positively, something rare today. The banda is brutal and violent and how it involves a DVD, or a video, only with video clips, we note that, despite the wonderful music of them be at the visual they exaggerate. Again, the guys are bombados, but very bombados, there are steroids. And the violent to me, come to be unnecessary. The singer is applying injection in the face, crossing from one side to another, in addition to drill their own testicles. To that? The final clip, which indeed is the subject of a duel for free, they lead to foot the bill this. Yes, the fight-free officers, everything is tested. It is done to nobody hurt and all have fun and rirem. Here, he faces a fight with another fight for true freedom, with the guys is scrubbing in barbed wire, giving martelada into one another, grampeando the face of the enemy (of truth) and a jorração of blood (of truth) greater than any movie from Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees together! Moreover, this struggle of the last voice clip seems the end of the film Freddy vs. Jason, a barbarity unequaled and without end. But other clips, although violence, is something more and tested with some history, and music, is great! JCB - 9.0

JCB – 9,0

BUTCHER'S BLOCK
Your guide to the worthy
reviews written by Maija
KETTLE CADAVER
Among the Damned DVD
Well, beat me with the wow stick! This DVD is simply... utterly WOW! Similar to their debut DVD, but better... bloodier... meatier... sicker! It has its epic moments... its disturbing moments... its how the hell?? and WHAT the hell??? moments and everything in between. At first I must admit, I was skeptical.... I was, dare I say, a little worried that it wouldnÕt compare to the first one. So many bands put out one great thing and after that, it's all downhill. But Kettle Cadaver have really topped themselves.
What I really appreciate about this DVD is that it's a perfect balance of grainy film (but NOT budget - you can actually tell what's going on)... high quality (MTV worthy- i.e these guys actually seem to know what they're doing when armed with equipment) and still keeps in with the whole underground art. I know, it sounds like a paradox.... but trust me, when you see it, you'll know what I am talking about.
Expect to hear: a little punk, a little thrash, a little Metal, a little Rockin Metal, a little noise- industrial, a little Black Metal... and a little hardcore. Expect to see: a road warrior worship video that kicks serious ass, some backyard bloody- gouging- stuff flying everywhere fighting, sluts & snakes, amazing live performances, genital mutilation, the aftermath of some serious facial mutilation and some things that well,
I couldn't even begin to describe.... Very rarely do I ever stumble upon anything that could simultaneously make me blush, say ouch, turn a sort of green, giggle and cringe. Yes... I do believe this is actually the first.......

AMONG THE DAMNED
(12 video DVD)
HORROR ROCK RECORDS
Well, well, well...the sickos known as KETTLE CADAVER are back again. This time they have releasesd a DVD featuring 12 of their songs in video format. The band plays some sick & twisted sounding Industrial Metal styled music.
The music is very harsh & aggressive Industrial at times, while others they have more of a Thrash/Death Metal crossover style to them. The videos are very intense with lots of self mutilation, piercing of private areas, cutting ones self & lots of other sick deranged stuff.
It's all done for pure enjoyment purposes, but it's a matter of who's enjoyment! These sickos definately need to been seen live for the real experience!

Kettle Cadaver
Among the Damned
Horror Rock
Collection of live and studio clips from this notorious shock-rock band. Filled with bloody (and real!) S&M sequences and plenty of horror imagery, this is a wince-worthy compilation that should probably be taken in small doses, unless you're some kind of fuckin' nutcase. Includes bonus German deathcamp wrestling footage which, I for one, am steering clear of. I mean, who the fuck knows what's going on there? Extreme culture fans take note. Average citizens head for the hills.

"Among the Damned"
(Horror Rock; 2008)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Kettle Cadaver play an intense music with a death metal / industrial slant. But you probably won't remember them for that. Instead, you'll never forget the images of front man Edwin Borsheim as he mutilates himself live on stage with such items as metal screws, syringes, barbed wire, nuts, bolts and staple guns. Yes, the blood is real. And there's lots of it.
Despite the carnage, however, the music is pretty good. The band plays a style of music that's extreme but also very atmospheric ... something that isn't so easy to do. Imagine trying to make Cannibal Corpse or Cattle Decapitation "eerie." Not so simple. Kettle Cadaver, however, manage to make their music just that. Watching "Among the Damned' is like watching a musical rendition of the wildest possible "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" films (we're talking the originals here; not the generic re-makes). The DVD plays like a horror film, but though the blood and gore is very real.
Some may prefer to simply listen to Kettle Cadaver rather than experience the entire audio-visual package contained herein. It's certainly easier on the stomach. Still, watching the completely uncut and uncensored "Among the Damned" definitely ups the ante. Whether or not that's your cup of tea ... well, that's entirely up to you.

When I bought this dvd admit that I did not know absolutely nothing of the band. But the price was affordable and I knew they landed for noenata label Horror Rock, which is also involved Eva O. curiosity and then had the better. I read on the cover that the content was "strong", but I was expecting certainly not what I saw. but starts with the music. The Kettle Cadaver play a powerful Industrial Metal, energetic, violent, without fraud,. Sometimes cimentano in melancholic ballads (???) always in key Industrial, but mostly their assault is a true sound. Nothing bad, but impact, well played and effective.
The fact is that this soundtrack is laying on a series of clips, Live or studio, where the frontman Edwin Borsheim sings while subjected to every kind of torture, with needles, syringes, nails, hammers, knives and everything you comes to mind, in a crescendo continuous fact of blood, and self shreds of flesh falling. How was a splatter film. But without controfigure, and without stage effects. Everything is true in these images, that more would just be very annoying.
These guys are REALLY rendered skull, and for me are in total disagreement with this philosophy of life, at least they are true, certainly more of clowns who, with two taglietti healed, menano for hours on scarificazioni various philosophies and annexed. Only for lovers of this kind. The others are at large, could be very annoying and disturbing several sequences.
Also a bonus videotape in which our cimenta is in a sort of battle to the death (you this Jena Plissken in 1997 Escape from New York shortly before being able to flee from? Behold, such a thing ... ), Body to body with another. A tournament, it seems. And who wins remains standing after both mazzate with bare hands, both with iron bars, clubs, etc. chiodate. Obviously the Ring is made of barbed wire, and is enclosed in a cage.
There is no escaping .... There tell who wins senn˜ rovino the surprise ... is people are sick ....

AMONG THE DAMNED Horror Records
Written by Randall Ras on Saturday 05 July, 2008. Last updated on Saturday 05 July, 2008
Among the Damned is a DVD compilation of as the description implies the complete Kettle Cadaver music videos (from never before seen clips to live performances). The 12 clips presented on this DVD are filled with every brutal and bloody endeavor imaginable; from the singer stapling himself repeatedly with a staple gun, to him piercing his dick and testicles with nails and cutting himself with various sharp objects, to brutal fights, buckets of gore, dead animal parts, anarchy and mutilation. Thus, visually, it is as sick as a truly disturbing splatter film should be! However, music wise, it did not impress me one bit. The industrial/thrash/hardcore punk flavored Murderdolls-meets-Danzig style of Kettle Cadaver is quite monotonous and at times, dare I say, boring. In fact, the music removed the sadistic and grim atmosphere the DVD was trying to convey up to a point that some clips were rendered justÉ humorous!
The guitars were a bit too dim and soft and the grunted vocals (if one can call them that) were too forced to even be anywhere close to brutal. Had this been a B movie or cheap snuff movie, it might have gained some sort of popularity amongst lovers of such cult movies. However, being what it is (a music DVD), it simply fails to live to its expectations.
Surely, if the music of Kettle Cadaver were to improve any time soon, then I'm sure their next horror music DVD would be more of a success than this concoction. But for now, the only pleasure I can find in this release is watching the German deathcamp wresting match (added as bonus material) and the many ways singer Edwin mutilates his own bodyÉ both are just disturbingly sick!

Kettle Cadaver: Among the Damned

Do you want to see some dude hammer nails through his penis, slice up his flesh, and jack up his body in other exciting ways? Then I recommend that you skip this music video collection and move straight to Sick: The Life & Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist. Why? Because Mr. Flanagan had a philosophy. Hurting himself was his way of keeping control over a body that was fighting hard to see him lose control, a body with cystic fibrosis. He made self-mutilation into something very compelling. On the other hand, if you just want to see hypodermic needles stuck into scrotums and you would rather pass on philosophy in favor of some pedestrian heavy metal, you might want to pick up this DVD by Kettle Cadaver instead. The self-induced bleeding here is accompanied by some fun scenes of the dudes in the band playing around with animal carcasses, as well as lots of stuff being smashed. It’s shock for the sake of shock and it’s been done before. Danzig and NIN both have great music videos with scenes of penis torture. They also have a key feature that Kettle Cadaver lacks: good music. Still, amidst all the contrived shock videos, Kettle Cadaver manage to succeed despite themselves, if only for one three minute segment. “The Crack of Dawn” is one of the most impressive Mad Max tributes I’ve every seen. The band drops the gore schtick for a moment and gets post-apocalyptic. The care put into the battle scenes, the dusty car chases, and even the song blow everything else on this disc away. For a brief period of time, we see that this band actually does have some heart. Too bad they spend the rest of their time hiding it under a cover of gore. –MP Johnson (Horror Rock) |
