The Super Heroines was a band that evolved out of Eva O’s first band the Speed Queens. started in 1980. Only together for 3 months Eva O convinced Bemis Brain Records to use 3 of her songs on Hell come to you House. Originally it was meant that the Speed Queens would be on it but Eva O broke up the band that seemed to have to much partying and not enough play in mind.
She kept Sandra and took on Del Mar Richardson as Drummer and started writing new songs for the first Super Heroines record “Cry for Help”. Cry for Help is a one of a kind record having a dark and sometimes depressing sound. It is the beginning of Eva Os heavy punkish metal sound. After the release of Cry for Help this line up fell apart and Eva O found Jill Emery and Steven Darrow, a bass player and drummer team and started working on the second record Souls that Save.
During this time Eva O had been helping her partner Rozz Williams with his band Christian Death and met a new drummer from this band his name was China. He joined up half way through the recording of “Souls that Save” making both sides of this record have a different drummer and a different sound. Souls that Saves goes from suicide to death at a flip of the record.
The next recording was with Jill Emery (bass), Cathy Falanga (drums), Diana (drums), and Tish Luca (keyboards and flute). This recording had much more of a metal sound and ended up being put on hold after Eva O broke up the band to start a new life with her new husband Rozz Williams. After 15 years she finally decided to put these recordings out on Cleopatra records on a CD called Love and Pain.
The Super Heroines has had many incarnations but the spine and soul of it is Eva O. This band has never ending, Eva O has just moved on to other projects. With the demand for old school punk, she has had many request to perform Super Heroines music which has prompted her to put together something to quench the desire of these requests. The Super Heroines has always been an exciting project for Eva O. |
